They recreate the iconic frames using inherited archival material as design reference to bring back the Julius Tart Optical brand back to life. The AR shape from Julius Tart is one of their most iconic shapes, featuring a rounded square frame. Handmade in Japan from a cellulose based acetate, the AR comes with 100% UV protection lenses and comes complete with official Julius Tart Optical packaging (leather case & cloth). Julius Tart began making frames in the United States in the 1940s, and the AR shape is one of his most recognisable silhouettes. Today Julius Tart Optical produces these frames by hand in Japan using inherited archival material as the design reference, working in cellulose-based acetate. This Tokyo Tortoise colourway is dark brown at the outer edge with amber and orange mottling through the frame body, appearing almost black in low light. The lenses are flat green, the bridge has a slight keyhole profile, and the barrel hinges carry a small diamond-shaped silver plate at each joint. Frame size is 46 x 24. Each pair ships with a leather case, cloth, and presentation box.
